MLB: Kansas City Royals-Review

Royals – Moustakas Review

by Coach Huber
Moustakas History 2007-2010 Moustakas was drafted by the Kansas City Royals with the second overall pick of the 2007 amateur draft. He signed with the team on August 15, 2007, receiving a reported signing bonus of $4 million. Entering 2009, Moustakas was widely regarded as one of the top baseball prospects in all of minor league baseball. The Sporting News ranked Moustakas as the 13th-best prospect overall, while MLB.com listed Moustakas as their 11th-best prospect in all of baseball. Moustakas, however, had trouble adjusting to the Carolina League in 2009.   While his power remained, his ability to hit for a [...]

Giants: Posey, Sandoval, Ishikwa

Pay Close Attention to the Swing  The San Francisco Giants are officially a dynasty and now it is time to put them on the watch list and learn. Offensively they are more than adequate and were ranked in the top 15 in hitting this year. They have hit well in the playoffs also.  They are tops in the National League and have predominately out slugged their opponents when it comes to extra base hits (although the Cardinals went neck and neck with them). The thing to watch for is that the majority of their hitters swing up hill and are [...]

by Coach Huber
If you ask most coaches at any level what is the one thing that helps teams bring home championships and they will say pitching. Although I agree that pitching is a major key, my research continually shows me that year in and year out that championships are won by the better hitting teams. Even though hitting was at its worst in MLB history this year, the top hitting teams in the league all made the playoffs. The Angels, Dodgers, A's, Detroit, Baltimore, Pittsburgh and Washington were all top ten hitting teams with San Francisco not far behind at 14th best. [...]

What’s Next for Kevin Long?

by Coach Huber
Yankees Hitting Coach Kevin Long Recently Fired Yankees Hitting Coach Kevin Long recently got fired by Yankees management because they could not ignore the fact the the Yankees hitting numbers have gone down ever since Kevin Long has been there. Kevin Long is a well tauted coach who is always a lead speaker at baseball conventions and very comparable to the stature of the late Charlie Lau. Before Kevin Long came on the scene a man named Dave Hudgens preceded him as one of the main baseball hitting gurus. Dave's "Hitting for Excellence" website has appeared number one on Google [...]
